    A Skull in the Sanctuary

Even my little sanctuary welcomes a visitor or two when October arrives. A grinning skull settles in among my plants, crystals, journals, and the gentle glow of a salt lamp. Along the balcony railing, spider plants and succulents mingle beneath a little decorative moon and the warm glow of garden lights. This corner of the Garden Oasis is one of my favorite reminders that enchantment doesn't have to be elaborate. Sometimes all it takes is a few growing things, a touch of moon magic, and a quiet autumn night.

  • Decorative sculpted lion head mounted on an indoor wall, featuring a detailed brown mane, slightly open mouth, and eerie green eyes.

The Guardian with the Green Eyes

This watchful lion has been part of my home for many years. Originally a gift from a friend to my late husband, Doug, who was a Leo, he has remained a treasured companion through the years. Today he stands near the front door of the Tree House, keeping watch over everyone who comes and goes. His mysterious green eyes make him especially well suited to Halloween, although his place in my home is anything but seasonal.

  • White plastic skeleton hand sticking upright out of the soil in a large round flowerpot with a tomato plant on a balcony decorated for Halloween.

Something Is Growing in the Garden

DescripI've always said the Garden Oasis is full of life, but this might be taking things a little too far! A skeletal hand has mysteriously emerged from the soil, apparently determined to join the October festivities. Even the garden has a sense of humor at Halloween.tion goes here

  • Black Halloween witch's cauldron filled with crumpled pink tissue paper and a creepy gray zombie-like head peeking over the rim.

    An Unexpected Ingredient

This rather gruesome fellow began his Halloween adventures as a hanging Grim Reaper, given to me years ago by a neighborhood boy who thought my outdoor decorations needed a little help. It was such a sweet gesture that I've kept him ever since. This year, while bringing him home from work, I discovered that his flexible body fit perfectly inside my witch's cauldron. Suddenly, instead of a hanging ghost, I had a rather questionable ingredient bubbling away in the witch's kitchen! He's now found a new home in the Haunted Garden Oasis, where he looks delightfully dreadful.

  • Black haunted-house-shaped Halloween sign reading Home Sweet Haunted Home, displayed with small corked bottles of colorful glitter and miniature witch's potion bottles.

  • Pinhead, a whimsical Halloween doll with a stitched gray fabric face, large black button eyes, striped sleeves, and distressed orange overalls, standing beside a sliding glass door.

    Pinhead: The Midnight Visitor

Meet Pinhead, one of the Tree House's most mischievous Halloween residents. My son gave him to me years ago, and somehow he became the star of a rather ridiculous family tradition. We would secretly move him around the house in the middle of the night, hoping to scare each other. You never knew when you might open your bedroom door or wander into the bathroom and find Pinhead waiting in the darkness! We both managed to get each other pretty good over the years. These days, he's more than a Halloween decoration—he's a funny little reminder of all those unexpected scares and the laughter that followed.
